4.) Follow-up

5.) Corrective action

6.) Re-planning

1.) Routing

1.) Determining the best sequences for the production.

2.) Determining the quality of the product to be manufactured.

3.) Determining the men, machines & materials to be used for manufacturing.

4.) Determining the place of production.

5.) Minimum time for producing the product.

2.) Scheduling

Scheduling arranges the different manufacturing operations in order of priority, fixing or deciding the amount of work to be done, fixing the time for starting and finishing the work, date for the commencement & completion of each operation.

3.) Dispatching

Dispatching is concerned with starting and implement the production process laid down in routing and Scheduling. It involves the issue of material and timely availability of tools and equipment at the production center. Providing the necessary instruction to carry out the production process.

4.) Follow-up

It involves the regular check and evaluation of production activity. In this, actual performance is compared with the set standards. Actual planning may be less than planned due to some reasons like - Non-availability of raw material, breakdown of material, Labour absentee, lack of proper training and instruction.

5.) Corrective action

It is the keystone of any production control activity. If there is a negative gap between actual performance and set standard. Corrective action should be taken to fulfill these gaps. Management should take timely corrective action to avoid big losses.

6.) Re-planning

Here, Re-planning does not mean corrective action. Re-planning revise routes, schedules, and Dispatching. It involves developing a new plan. In manufacturing, this is often required. Because of changes in market conditions, manufacturing methods, innovative technology, etc.
